Volkswagen has leaped ahead of traditional rivals Mercedes-Benz and BMW to become Australia’s top-selling European automotive brand in March.
According to industry statistician VFACTS, Volkswagen finished the month with 848 passenger car registrations and 89 commercial vehicles.
The result comes in just the third sales month for Volkswagen Group Australia – the wholly-owned subsidiary of Volkswagen AG which assumed distribution on 1st January 2001.
Volkswagen Group Australia’s Managing Director, Mr Peter Nochar says there is more to come.
“I would like to congratulate those Volkswagen Dealers throughout Australia who have captured the spirit of what we are doing with the brand and delivered this great result,” Mr Nochar said.
“It is a particularly encouraging result when you consider we are very short of Passat and Bora stock as these two models are in runout,” he added.
The new GP model Volkswagen Passat goes on sale on 1st May and the new Bora featuring Volkswagen’s 150kW 2.8-litre V6 engine and 4Motion all-wheel-drive will be launched on 1st July.
