Volkswagen Group Australia has released the first architectural drawings of its new headquarters building under construction in the Sydney suburb of Botany.

The 3,000 sqm building within The Lakes Business Park will replace the current temporary offices located nearby in Alexandria.

Relocation to the new premises is scheduled for late 2002.

Volkswagen Group Australia's new headquarters is being designed in accordance with Volkswagen's uniform worldwide standards and when complete will house all of the company's Australian operations — sales, marketing, finance, public relations, service, parts and technical support. In addition, the building will feature a new vehicle showroom - also designed and built to Volkswagen's worldwide standards - as well as state-of-the art workshops both for technical training and the company's works racing team.

And while the building has an outstanding aspect, highly visible at the front from Botany Road, Volkswagen team members will enjoy a pleasant working atmosphere with extensive natural lighting and tranquil views over a lake and Eastlakes Golf Course.

Mr Peter Nochar, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Australia, said securing the new site was important for the group's future in Australia.

"Our present site enabled us to quickly establish the Volkswagen business in Australia but it was always our intention to relocate to a purpose-built location which will provide office and technical facilities in accordance with Volkswagen's demanding worldwide standards," Mr Nochar explained.

It is not coincidental that Volkswagen has joined the many businesses choosing to base their operations in Sydney's South-East.

"In conjunction with our German parent company and our Regional Office in Singapore, we determined very early on that we needed to be in this area, close to Sydney's airport, as extensive domestic and international travel is essential to run the Volkswagen business," Mr Nochar added.

Volkswagen's neighbors within The Lakes Business Park are the Australian head offices of multi-national telecommunications companies, airlines and fashion brands.

"When complete, our new headquarters will be amongst the very best of Volkswagen's worldwide offices and it will be a pleasure to welcome our dealers and other friends to our new home, " Mr Nochar said.
