Honda Australia’s Adam Fergusson had a fair result at “Brands Hatch” in England in round 8 of the World Supersport Series on the weekend of July 28 & July 29.
Adam, who had never ridden the challenging circuit before, performed well in Friday and Saturday’s free practice and qualifying. The Australian was within 1 second of the front runners, all of whom had completed many laps at Brands Hatch before.
With the CBR600F4i and Adam coping well with the unseasonally hot conditions the Castrol Honda Alpha Technik team were confident of a good result at “Brands Hatch.”
Starting the race from the fifth row of the grid Fergusson had a bad start and dropped six positions by the first corner. After the first lap he was placed in 24th position, but by lap 10 Adam had fought his way in to 17th position. Fergusson was slowly catching the mid field but was unable to make any ground on the front runners and had to settle for a 15th position finish.
“It was a hard race with it being so hot, but the CBR performed faultlessly. It was always going to be difficult having never raced at “Brands,” said Fergusson. “I am reasonably happy with my performance, but very disappointed with my start.”
“The conditions were difficult, with the heat and the usual high level of competitiveness in this class”, said team manager Glyn Griffiths, “Adam rode a steady race and achieved some good times considering his lack of laps around this circuit. The CBR600F4i is performing perfectly and we recorded the second highest top speed. It was disappointing that Adam had a bad start because his times proved he could have achieved a much better result.”
The next round is at Oschersleben on September 03.
