Nissan’s stylish Maxima sedan has received a significant specification update for the new 2002 model year range.
The 2002 Maxima is the first vehicle in Nissan’s Australian range to feature the new brand identity badge unveiled by Mr Carlos Ghosn, the company’s global President and Chief Executive Officer at the 2001 Detroit Auto Show.
Nissan’s new visual identity, including a stylish new badge and word mark, will be gradually unveiled at major international motor shows, along with new product and concept vehicles which showcase the bold and innovative direction of the company.
The updated Maxima range receives significant specification improvements including new 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels across the range, state-of-the-art Drive Computer, new look steering wheel and cruise control and an in-dash 6-stacker compact disc player in the ST and Ti variants. Pricing on all variants remains unchanged.
First released in Australia in 1990, the Nissan Maxima has been praised for its superior performance and dynamics and smooth-as-silk transmission. The Maxima’s powerful V6 engine has been included in the world renowned Ward’s Auto World “10 Best Engines” award for seven consecutive years – the only engine to achieve such consistent results.
The third generation Nissan Maxima, launched in December 1999 was lauded for its all-new, contemporary styling, refined 3.0-litre VQ-design DOHC 24-valve alloy V6 engine, increased size and enhanced safety features and this has been reflected in the vehicle’s increased sales since launch.
Externally, the 2002 Nissan Maxima’s prestigious appearance has been enhanced by the inclusion of the stylish new corporate brand identity badge featured prominently on the bonnet and boot. The new badge is also included on the upgraded 16-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels now available on every variant in the range. Specification level badges have also been updated
Already renowned for its high equipment levels and luxurious internal appoint-ments including standard automatic transmission, dual airbags, air-conditioning (automatic climate control on the ST and Ti models), and power windows and mirrors, the 2002 Maxima range gains even more features inside the cabin.
A redesigned steering wheel, made from leather for a firm, comfortable grip has been fitted and also bears the new corporate brand identity badge.
Both ST and Ti variants gain a Fujitsu 10 six-stacker in-dash audio system. A single disc in-dash CD player remains standard on the S level Maxima.
All variants feature an updated cruise control. To complete the comfort, convenience and safety features of the updated Maxima range, each vehicle gains a state-of-the-art Drive Computer.
Functions of the computer include:
available kilometres with remaining fuel;
kilometres driven since starting vehicle;
time driven since starting vehicle;
average fuel consumption; and
average speed.
Launching the 2002 Nissan Maxima range, Mr Paul Stead, Director of Sales and Marketing, commented on the vehicle’s excellent reputation. “The Maxima is well recognised as offering class-leading value, a high standard of appointments and smooth and responsive performance. The enhancements added in the 2002 model range update make the Maxima an even better proposition for the discerning buyer,” he said.
The 2002 Nissan Maxima range will be available for sale from September 10th 2001.
