With an interior borrowed from the hot Astina SP20 and low profile 15-inch alloy wheels, Mazda has added a sporty, limited edition model to its strong-selling 323 Protégé range.
The Platinum Edition Protégé, which is powered by Mazda’s 92kW, 1.8-litre, 16-valve engine, comes with a rear spoiler and front fog lamps to further emphasise the car’s sporting flavour.
The interior highlights, including white-faced dials, a chunky, leather-clad Nardi steering wheel and the boldly-trimmed, two-tone seats are all from the SP20.
To complete the package Platinum Edition models also come with alloy-look trim highlights on the dash and floor mats front and rear.
The additional equipment builds on the already long list of features offered on the 1.8-litre 323 Protégé.
Standard features include air conditioning, remote locking, six stack in-dash CD player, ABS anti-locking brakes, dual airbags, disc brakes front and back, power windows and mirrors, a split/fold rear seat and an engine immobiliser.
Priced at $26,990 for the manual and $28,820 for the four-speed automatic, the limited edition models, which include an additional $1400 of equipment, cost just $355 more than the equivalent standard Protégé.
Only 400 will be offered in a choice of Platinum Silver or Innocent Blue body colors.
The Platinum Edition Protégé is the fourth and final limited edition model in this series, however, to celebrate and help maintain the company’s strong sales performance this year, Mazda has kicked-off its “On a Roll” retail campaign. To the end of August Mazda’s sales had jumped by 28.5 per cent over the same period last year.
The retail campaign, which will be supported by a new television advertisement that was shot near Colac in Victoria, offers a free, four-year unlimited kilometre warranty on all passenger cars and Tribute models.
It also includes the popular 121 Shades, which includes air conditioning, from $15,990, best in segment value with the ever-popular Astina and Protégé 1.6-litre Shades from $20,995, while 626 models with automatic transmissions are being offered at the same price as manuals. The Premacy is priced at $26,490 driveaway with free alloy wheels.
And the Boss is back. Mazda is offering primary producers a limited edition Boss version of the four-wheel-drive, diesel-powered Bravo cab chassis.
The Boss adds a bull bar, timber and steel tray, tow bar and air conditioning and is priced at $26,490 (Primary Producer’s recommended price), an increase of just $330 on the standard model.
