Volkswagen Group Australia has enhanced the lineup of its luxurious Passat range with the addition of new station wagon models.
Available with either the 2.8-litre 30V V6 or turbocharged 1.8-litre 20V four cylinder engine, Volkswagen Passat now offers wagon buyers all of the luxury, performance, style and safety features associated with the Passat sedan range.
New Passat Wagon encompasses the far-reaching changes (more than 2300 new parts) introduced in the revised sedan range launched in May.
Outside, the new Passat delivers a more aggressive look - the new nose presenting a deeper, chrome-lined grille and clear headlights. New light clusters at the rear complement the contemporary new look. Passat
1.8 -litre turbo Wagons are distinguished by black roof rails while the roof rails fitted to the V6 model are chrome.
Like the equivalent sedan models, the 1.8T Passat Wagon comes standard with 7JX15 Wellington alloy wheels and the V6 version features 7JX16 Road America 6-spoke alloy wheels.
Inside there is the redesigned interior (like the sedan) with new centre console and chrome-ringed instruments. The digital display between the rev counter and speedometer shows warnings, service information and the trip computer information including driving range to empty for the fuel tank. V6 models have wood trim inserts while the 1.8T features sporty aluminium trim inserts - again matching the equivalent sedan models.
The V6 model Wagon also boasts additional standard features found on the Sedan - including an auto-dimming rearview mirror and rain-sensing wipers.
Like the sedan, Passat Wagon highlights Volkswagens third generation anti-theft immobiliser and alarm with interior monitoring. Passat has won consistent praise for its security system which includes deadlocking, anti-theft steering lock, metal encapsulated locks and the engine immobiliser. The new third generation immobiliser incorporates the engine control unit (ECU) as part of the code-checking procedure on startup. Interior monitoring - previously only available on the V6 is now standard on all models.
Carrying capacity for the wagon models is impressive - rear floor length with the rear seatback (60/40 split) folded is 1744mm.
Pricing for the Passat Wagons are:
1.8T (5 speed Tiptronic) - $49,800
V6 (5 speed Tiptronic) - $57,400
Revealing the new Passat Wagons, Volkswagen Group Australias Managing Director, Mr Peter Nochar said: Introduction of the Wagon models completes the new Passat lineup in Australia and while we will never rival the sorts of volume sales achieved by the Wagon in Europe, those local customers who wish to combine the luxury and style of a European sedan with the convenience of a wagon now have everything they need in the Passat with either 1.8T or V6 power.
