Four Volkswagen models have been honoured by J.D. Power Customer Satisfaction in North America and Australia's Best Cars Award.
In Australia, the Passat V6 repeated its 2000 success in collecting Australia's Best Cars Award for Best Luxury Car 2001 Under $56,000.
Volkswagen's New Beetle, Bora (Jetta) and Golf all topped their classes in North America's authoritative J.D. Power Report Customer Satisfaction study.
Australia's Best Cars Awards 2001 were judged by the various State Motoring Organizations such as the RACV in Victoria and the NRMA in NSW while the J.D. Power surveys represent the views of more than 100,000 car owners with vehicles up to three years old.
Accepting the trophy for Australia's Best Cars 2001 (Best Luxury Car Under $56,000) Volkswagen Group Australia's Managing Director, Mr Peter Nochar, said: "The Australian award for Passat and the J.D. Power success for New Beetle, Bora (Jetta) and Golf are clear evidence of the benefits arising from Volkswagen's worldwide passion for quality and customer satisfaction."
Mr Nochar added Volkswagen Group Australia remains on target to achieve its stated goal of 10,000 new vehicle sales in 2001.
"The Volkswagen Golf is Australia's best-selling European passenger car and in March, June, July and August, Volkswagen was Australia's best-selling European brand," Mr Nochar said. "We have already sold nearly 8,000 vehicles this year — ahead of last year's total figure — and we're on-target to deliver 10,000 sales in 2001."
The Volkswagen Group, representing nine brands of passenger and commercial vehicles — Audi, Bugatti, Bentley, Lamborghini, Rolls Royce, Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen and Volkswagen Commercial vehicles — is the largest automotive manufacturer in Europe.
For the first six months of 2001, the Asia-Pacific region delivered strong sales growth for the Group with 228,061 vehicles sold — 16.3 per cent ahead of the same period in 2000.
Worldwide, Group sales for the first six months of 2001 totaled 2,659,827 vehicles which represents a global market share of 12.5 per cent — 0.6 per cent better than the first half of 2000.
