  • Over 17% more torque

Holden now gives Rodeo buyers even more model variants to choose from with the introduction of a powerful and torquey 3.0 litre intercooled turbo diesel engine.

The premium performance powerplant also delivers the option of automatic transmission for the first time in a Rodeo diesel.

The 3.0 litre intercooled turbo diesel models will be available in December as part of an upgraded Holden Rodeo line-up for 2002. They deliver 29.7 per cent more power and 17.8 per cent more torque than Rodeo's tried and proven 2.8 litre turbo diesel, which will continue to be offered on four popular model variants*.

The new 3.0 litre engine is the smoothest and most refined Rodeo diesel yet, combining a high performance capability with increased fuel efficiency. It can be specified on a range of fifteen Holden Rodeos - Crew Cab, Space Cab and Cab Chassis - in 4x4 or 4x2 configuration. The option of four speed automatic transmission is available on Crew Cab models.

Simon Carr, Holden's Marketing Manager, Light Commercial and Recreational Vehicles, says the 3.0 litre turbo diesel Rodeo offers a impressive blend of power, torque and fuel efficiency.

"It's a great choice for anyone who needs low-down lugging power coupled with sustained high speed ability and great diesel economy. Add to that the proven Rodeo attributes of strength, staying power and reliability - plus the availability of automatic transmission on certain models - and you have a very persuasive package.

"The key word here is choice. Now with two hard-working turbo diesel powerplants on offer, the 2002 Holden Rodeo range gives buyers more of it than ever," Simon Carr concluded.

Rodeo's 3.0 litre ITO engine generates peak power of 96kW @ 3,800rpm. The long, flat torque curve delivers 275Nm © 2000rpm (automatic transmission) and 265Nm @ 2000rpm with manual transmission.

Preliminary testing of the new turbo diesel engine indicates a 9 per cent improvement in fuel economy on a mixed city/highway cycle over the current 2.8 litre turbo diesel engine, which is already recognised as a fuel economy leader.

These power and fuel efficiency improvements are achieved through the specification of a high-pressure Bosch VP44 direct fuel injection system and a top-mounted intercooler which allows unobstructed airflow. High-pressure direct injection delivers the fuel in a finely atomised spray for more efficient fuel use.

New Look For 2002

While Rodeos powered by the 3.0 litre turbo diesel are distinguished by a new bonnet mounted air intake, fresh styling cues identify other models in the Rodeo lineup for 2002.

All Rodeos, with the exception of the 2.8 litre Turbo Diesel Crew Cab, now wear the Holden lion badge on their grilles. DX models feature a grille with black inner and outer sections and grey bumpers with a black steel insert. LX and LT Rodeos share stylish flush headlights, a body coloured grille outer section and black inner grille. Their bumper treatments differ in that LX bumpers are grey and LT bumpers are finished to match the lower body colour.

The 2002 Holden Rodeo range also introduces a new paint finish in Foxfire Red, which is available on LX models. Rodeo LT and LT Sport feature the combination of Radiant Red over Light Silver metallic as well as Cape Blue Metallic over Keizer Silver metallic.
