A talented team of Sydney Lexus owners has beaten nearly 2000 opponents in a nationwide competition to win the annual Lexus Legends Golf Final at the Hope Island course on the Gold Coast.

The winning foursome representing Sydney City Lexus were John Waugh, Eddie Boas, Peter Sprowles and Maurie Koop, who took out the 36-hole final against 17 other teams made up of Lexus owners from around Australia.

Over 1860 Lexus owners played at 19 Lexus Dealer Golf Days during the year to qualify for the 2001 Lexus Legends final held over two days at the Queensland resort.

Melbourne City Lexus II were runners-up in the handicap event, while defending trophy holders Lexus of Wyndham, Victoria, finished fifth.

Participants in the Lexus Legends golf program enjoyed the opportunity to play at some Australia’s most exclusive courses throughout the year including Huntingdale in Melbourne, The Vines in Western Australia, Riverside Oaks near Sydney and Royal Adelaide.

During the final each foursome played one day with a randomly selected golf professional - including Mike Clayton, Roger Mackay and Peter MacWinney - and on the other with a celebrity such as Lee Kernaghan, dual Olympic gold medallist Mike McKay from the Oarsome Foursome, and Kerri-Anne Kennerley.

The event kicked off with a video welcome from Greg Norman, then an Australiana-themed pool party featuring Lee Kernaghan the night before the first day’s play.

Each night the teams enjoyed video highlights of the day’s play in addition to entertainment provided by Ace McDermott and Peter Kaye.

Lexus Golf Manager Bob Stanton said the Lexus Legends handicap system – which meant every team had an equal chance to win – proved extremely popular.

The Lexus Legends golf tournament at Hope Island resort is part of the Lexus Encore Benefits Program, which also includes preferred ticketing, travel, cultural events, and drive days for Lexus owners.
