Mazda has kicked off the year with record retail sales of close to 2700 vehicles, the best January result in the company’s history.
According to VFACTS figures Mazda Australia sold 2691 vehicles last month, giving it a strong 4.6 per cent share of the 58,557 January market.
The January total was the best since Mazda Australia started national distribution of Mazda cars and commercial vehicles in 1986 and was 26.7 per cent up on the January 2001 result of 2124 sales.
The 323 range with 1047 sales was the company’s strongest performer followed by the Tribute 4WD wagon, with 557 sales.
Mazda Australia’s managing director, Malcolm Gough said: "This is a very encouraging start to the year as it builds on the record result of 34,126 for Mazda last year.
"Our strong January performance gives us a great foundation for reaching this year’s target of more than 36,000 sales."
Last year the 323 with almost 11,000 sales was the company’s top seller, a role that it will again play this year.
"Last month’s sales performance of the 323 demonstrates that buyers recognise that the 323 Astina and Protégé offer exceptional value and quality at $20,695, with air conditioning, power windows and mirrors, driver air bag and remote locking all included," Gough said.
To help it reach its sales target in 2002 Mazda will release a number of new and updated models throughout the year.
In August the all-new 2.3-litre Mazda6 arrives and begins what will be the most ambitious and comprehensive revamp ever of the company’s mainstream model range.
Mazda also plans to launch the next-generation 121 about November, while a facelifted and more powerful Premacy and more powerful and better-equipped V6 MPV people mover arrive in April and June respectively.
