Daihatsu's Sirion 1.0L model entered this world as the car we should all be driving. It was all about fulfilling consumer needs and requirements by providing safety, comfort, practicality, economy and performance without contributing to the world's environmental problems. Sirion was savvy rather than ornamental - an example rather than a show-off.

But after a makeover in the design studio, the car we should have has emerged as the car we must have.

Sirion has emphatically reinforced Daihatsu's reputation as a trailblazer in compact car technology. Bold styling changes confirm the treatment Daihatsu is prepared to lavish on what has become the champion of the current Daihatsu range.

The freshness of the Sirion concept was reflected in Sirion 1.0L's front end appearance which was certainly individual, even challenging. Now, cosmetic surgery has produced the level of sophistication worthy of a champion. Early reaction suggests the styling update is perceived as "up-market", "European design" and "elegantly stylish".

New headlight and grille treatment, with split bumpers and fluted intakes in the front air dam, give the new generation Sirion both poise and purpose. Bonnet and fenders have also been reworked to reflect the European spirit.

Interior upgrades include a redesign of the dash panel and instrument cluster to improve both practical and aesthetic elements. Storage compartments have been added to the top centre of the dash, and an additional glove compartment positioned on the passenger side. The resulting effect is oodles more refinement.

The "big on features; small on price" philosophy is clearly the reason for the current wave of customer confidence, but the stylish new appearance will help elevate Sirion out of the micro-hatch pack.

Sirion's status as a micro-hatch is, in fact, already belied by its capacity for luggage absorption and passenger comfort. Daihatsu believes that Sirion represents a new generation of motor vehicle that effectively provides a spacious and comfortable interior and high level of safety and performance in a compact package.

The short nose/high roof design of Sirion creates an interior environment with ample leg and head room for both driver and passengers. Four doors and a large rear hatch make for easy access both for passengers and for loading and unloading.

With Sirion, "compact" doesn’t mean compromised passenger safety Daihatsu has provided Sirion with a comprehensive list of features expected only of larger, much-more-expensive cars. Impact-absorbing bumpers and rigid body structure reduces intrusion into the cabin area, enhancing safety in the event of an accident.

Crumple zones at both the front and rear are designed to absorb and disperse the impact of a collision. Side intrusion beams and strategically-positioned floor reinforcements help protect occupants in the event of a side-on collision. Driver and passenger safety is also enhanced by Sirion's dual SRS airbags and front seat belt pre-tensioners with height adjustment.

Driveability is an important feature of Sirion. Its 989cc, 3-cylinder, 12-valve, double overhead cam engine delivers clean, lively, economical performance with torque available in all the right places. Two transmission configurations - 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic -are available in Australia. Both options are geared to take advantage of the engine's willing torque and to enhance the vehicle's remarkable fuel efficiency.

Sirion 1.0L comes equipped with all the niceties of front electric windows, power steering, remote electric mirrors, CD player, bench folding rear seats, rear window wiper and washer, engine immobiliser, remote fuel flap release, UV protectant glass, and remote hatch opener.

New look Daihatsu Sirion 1 litre (including GST) has an RRP of $12,990 for the manual and for the automatic, $14,090.
