Proton has hit the market running with its new Jumbuck ute model taking
the Brisbane Motor Show by storm with 12 sales of the all new vehicle at
the show.
With a total of 38 sales during the ten day Brisbane Motor Show, Proton
is pleased with the response to its new model and the re-positioning of
Waja and GTi which also received strong buyer interest.
According to Proton Cars Australia managing director John Startari the
response in Brisbane is pleasing especially considering the marque's low
overall recognition in the Australian market.
"Brisbane is a very retail oriented show and despite the fact that other
brands sold many more cars we are very happy with both the direct sales
we scored and the interest shown in Jumbuck," said Mr Startari.
"The Jumbuck has aroused a lot of interest amongst buyers and we now
have an extensive list of prospects who have expressed a desire to buy
one.
"Certainly our dealers are excited by the resurgence in showroom traffic
the Jumbuck has generated across the country," Mr Startari added.
"Queensland is the cornerstone of our rebuilding process and we aim to
significantly expand our market share in that state before attacking
Victoria and New South Wales," he added.
"It is a strategy which acknowledges that we have to walk before we can
run, we're not making any bold predictions about volume just plotting a
steady climb over the next few years," he said.
Proton sold just less than 1000 cars in Australia in 2002 however the
company registered its best ever financial results since entering this
market in 1996.
The company predicts first year sales volume for the new Jumbuck of 1000
units with an increase to 1500 units in 2004.
The new Proton Jumbuck is available in two variants with the base model
GLi starting at a price $15,490 with the high spec GLSi priced from
$17,990.
