In a running change to Renault's acclaimed pocket rocket, the 124kW 2.0-litre Clio Sport, switchable ESP (Electronic Stability System) has been added as a standard feature.
This additional safety feature aids the driver by controlling vehicle trajectory when either the front or rear wheels skid.
By constantly monitoring the angle of the steering wheel, the vehicle's speed and the lateral forces applying to the vehicle, ESP can sense when the vehicle oversteers or understeers. The system automatically corrects the vehicle's trajectory by braking one or more wheels either through the ABS system or the engine.
However, in certain situations the driver may not want the input of the ESP system, which is why the Renault Clio Sport's ESP is switchable.
All other specifications of the vehicle remain unchanged. The recommended retail pricing of the Renault Clio Sport also remains unchanged at $33,990*.
Powered by a 2.0-litre 16-valve engine generating 124kW of power at 6,250 rpm and 200Nm of torque at 5,400rpm, the Clio Sport is the icon vehicle of Renault's popular Clio small car model line-up, which also includes 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre variants in three and five-door body styles.
Richard Wilson, Director of Renault Australia, announced the additional specification to the vehicle. "The Clio is Renault's strongest selling vehicle line-up in the Australian market. The inclusion of the switchable ESP system brings added value to the range and makes the Clio Sport an even more attractive proposition to the sports oriented driver," Mr Wilson said.
