  • Significant contributor to Mercedes sales success in Australia

Mercedes-Benz has enhanced the standard equipment levels of its popular A-Class and released a new "Exclusive" options package for ELEGANCE models.

A-Class CLASSIC models now come standard with an attractive new 6-spoke 15-inch alloy wheel fitted with 195/50 R15 tyres, central locking with remote control, and luggage compartment cover, representing $730 worth of added value.

The standard specification of the ELEGANCE design and equipment line has also been improved. Metallic paint is now a no-cost option for ELEGANCE, and cars with metallic paint will now also be equipped with a rain sensor for the windscreen wipers and removable and height adjustable front passenger seat, adding over $1,500 added value to customers.

These production-based standard-feature improvements to CLASSIC and ELEGANCE models in the A-Class range have been passed on to Mercedes customers at no cost.

Coinciding with the specification changes, Mercedes-Benz has released a new "Exclusive" options package that can now be ordered in conjunction with the ELEGANCE design and equipment line and no cost metallic paint.

The new package includes leather upholstery, heated front seats, PARKTRONIC parking aid and fully integrated telephone aerial.

The price of the "Exclusive" package is $4,250*, representing a saving of over $2,000 compared with individually ordering these options.

"The A-Class has been a vital contributor to the expansion and ongoing sales success of Mercedes-Benz in Australia," said Horst von Sanden, Managing Director Mercedes Car Group.

"More than 5,500 A-Class have been delivered in Australia since the car's release late in 1998. Over this period the A-Class has accounted for exactly 10 percent of total Mercedes sales (54,873) - a noteworthy achievement for a company boasting eleven model series and over 50 model variants," said von Sanden.

"The newly introduced specification enhancements and attractive options package will further enhance the appeal of the A-Class in the Australian market place," said von Sanden.

A-Class: Trend-setter amongst the compacts

The A-class offers numerous technical innovations in its market segment, for example the Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) and Brake Assist. The entry-level model is the A 160 ($34,900), which combines fun with dynamism, as well as moderate fuel consumption.

A unique feature continues to be the sandwich concept, where the engine, transmission and axles are accommodated partly in front of and partly beneath the passenger compartment. As a result the A-class has the same safety level as larger Mercedes-Benz saloons.

* For vehicles priced below the luxury car tax (LCT) threshold. The price is $5,220 (including GST and LCT) for vehicles priced above the luxury car tax threshold, representing a saving of over $2,700.
