A fabulous new option, available on HSV sedan models, is
guaranteed to have rear seat passengers looking forward to their journey as much
as the driver - a fully integrated premium DVD player.
The system consists of a boot mounted six-disc DVD changer -
giving plenty of choice and the potential for many hours of non-stop viewing -
feeding to a seven-inch roof mounted TFT-LCD active matrix screen with
16:9 aspect ratio. For convenience, the system is operated via an
infrared remote, the screen can be rotated to directly face a single
rear seat passenger and it simply flips up when not in use.
Infrared cordless headphones - each with independent volume
control - allow the rear seat entertainment to be enjoyed without disturbing
those in the front who are free to listen to the vehicle's radio/CD unit. In
addition, the headphone units include a smart 'battery saver'
feature which automatically turns them off when no signal is received.
If required a special Radio Input Control allows audio from the
DVD system to be fed through the vehicle's radio.
HSV's new DVD option is compatible with Pal and NTSC formats
and is capable of playing audio CDs and DVDs. There is even an Auxiliary
Input that enables a personal video camera, PS2 and Xbox gaming systems
to be played through the in-car system.
Like all HSV features the DVD option has been engineered to
integrate seamlessly into the vehicle. Indeed, HSV engineers spent around ten
months on the project allowing them to incorporate some clever features. For
instance, when the ignition is switched off (at a petrol station, shops, etc)
and turned back on again the movie starts from where it left off rather than
returning to the beginning. The driver has also been given ultimate control via
a master control unit mounted in the centre console.
The HSV DVD option will be available from early 2004 in
Clubsport, Clubsport R8, Senator, Senator Signature, and the soon to be
released, HSV Avalanche.
HSV's new entertainment option will have back seat cries of
'are we there yet?' turning into 'are we there already?'
