115 points out of possible 126 - best result ever
Set for Australian launch February 2004

Volkswagen's all-new T5-model Transporter van lineup has been voted 'International Van Of The Year 2004.'

The announcement of Volkswagen's latest success - made at last month's RAI Trade Show in Amsterdam - comes just ahead of Australian market introduction for the T5 van lineup that is scheduled for February 2004.

A jury of 18 editors and publishers from specialist European fleet, van and truck publications votes to determine the 'International Van Of The Year Award'.

In securing the 2004 crown, Volkswagen's T5 range garnered 115 points out of the maximum possible score of 126 points - the best result in the competition's 12-year history.

The jury commended the Volkswagen T5 range for its selection of engines and new six-speed gearbox plus the new-design suspension system that provides passenger car-like driving dynamics.

In addition, the jury praised Volkswagen for its close attention to the needs of commercial vehicle operators - the result is intelligent and practical solutions that make the all-new T5 range immensely safe and user-friendly.

Prior to this award, Volkswagen's new Transporter had already been named Germany's 'Van Of The Year' and the English magazine What Van? also gave 'Van Of The Year' status to the T5.

Commenting on this latest accolade, Volkswagen Group Australia's Commercial Vehicle General Manager, Mr Phil Clark, said: "Volkswagen's launch of the new T5 lineup is similar to the launch of the all-new Golf - it's the market's trendsetter, the vehicle by which others will be judged."

Mr Clark added that Volkswagen Group Australia had already previewed the Transporter to its major fleet operators who were staggered by the new van's extended load space, increased engine power and excellent driving characteristics.
