Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) is
celebrating another significant milestone in the company's export achievement
with the shipment of the 2004 Diamante to the Canadian marketplace.
The very first consignment of vehicles left Port Adelaide for Canada late
yesterday, with further shipments due to depart each month in line with North
American shipping schedules. Overall, it is expected that approximately 500
units will be exported to Canada in the program's first year.
"We're very excited about what the 2004 Diamante can achieve for MMAL in both
the USA and Canada," says Tom Phillips, President and CEO of MMAL.
"We pushed very hard to build and achieve a world class package in this
vehicle which not only meets, but exceeds, our export customers expectations.
And this car delivers. I am confident the Canadians will be as pleased with it
as our other export markets have been."
The Canadian version of the 2004 Diamante is based on the left-hand drive
North American specification, but with some subtle changes such as daytime
running headlamps, heated exterior mirrors, English/French labelling, and metric
left hand drive clusters/gauges and trip computer.
The cars will arrive in Canada in December and be immediately on sale.
MMAL last year achieved 10 years of vehicle exports to the USA, and since
1992, the company has exported over 80,000 vehicles to the USA with business
worth over $2 billion (AUD).
Apart from the USA and Canada, Mitsubishi Motors Australia also exports to
New Zealand, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Taiwan, Puerto Rico, Brunei, Fiji,
Lebanon, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Dominican Republic and Sri Lanka.
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. (MMSCAN) is a subsidiary of Mitsubishi
Motors North America. In September 2003, the company celebrated its first year
anniversary and already boasts 41 dealerships across the country offering 9
distinct models, which will now include the distinctive Boulay-designed,
Australian-built 2004 Diamante.
