For an amazing second consecutive year the Subaru Forester has won the prestigious Royal Automobile Club of Tasmania Best Car Award.
The award, announced in Hobart this morning, capped an amazing haul for Subaru in the annual RACT awards.
The Forester was also named Best Recreational Vehicle and the Impreza WRX also won the Best Sports Car Award, repeating its effort of last year.
But it was the RACT Best Car gong that captured the headlines as it is very rarely a vehicle wins the award two years running. More startling is the fact that the Forester competed against an unheralded number of new car launches during the year. This included quality newcomers like the Holden Astra, Mercedes M-class, VW Passat and Mercedes A-class.
The Forester is the consummate all-rounder, offering the best of all worlds. Equally at home on the road or in the paddocks, it excels in all Best Car criteria and provides levels of practicality, engineering, driveability and value for money which remain unbeatable, the RACT said.
The Forester is the first vehicle in the history of the awards to repeat its Best Car performance. Although in 1998 rival manufacturers tried hard to knock this smart little AWD off its perch, none could rise to the challenge, the RACT said.
It continues to shine in a host of environs, on and off the tarmac. Quite simply, the others have their work cut out to match the Foresters astounding blend of practicality, comfort, good manners and value.
The Impreza WRXs continued success in awards has cemented its place as the cult car of the 1990s.
Outstanding performance, braking and handling, along with practicality and value for money are the hallmarks of Subarus acclaimed pocket rocket Impreza WRX.
After a while you become attuned to the WRXs prodigious power but the outstanding grip and its forgiving nature almost never fails to impress each time you have a decent fang.
The RACTs awards follow similar success in the RACVs recent presentation when both the Forester and Impreza WRX won Recreational & Sports Car success.
