Mazda's four-door, four-seat RX-8 rotary sportscar and the mid-sized Mazda6 have
been voted top of their class in Australia's Best Cars awards.
Voted number one in each of their categories by Australia's motoring
organisations, the Mazda6 Classic outclassed the Subaru Liberty RX and Honda
Accord Euro to win Best Mid-size car over $28,000.
This is the second year running that the Mazda6 has won this prestigious
award.
The RX-8 was named Best Sports Car under $57,000*.
Australia's Best Car awards are presented by the NRMA, RACV, RACQ, RAA(SA),
RAC, RACT and the RAA (NT), which combined have over six million members across
Australia.
The judging criteria includes value for money, design and function and on the
road performance with each car undergoing a grueling five-day back-to-back
comparison test of several hundred kilometres.
The judges praised the RX-8 for its innovation, performance and ride quality,
while giving it top scores for handling, braking and its impressive list of
standard features.
The Mazda6 received top scores for its value for money, ergonomics, build
quality, comfort and practicality, while receiving consistently high marks for
performance, ride, handling and braking.
Mazda Australia managing director, Malcolm Gough said: "Receiving these
awards is further proof that our range of new-generation, Stylish, Insightful
and Spirited Mazdas are our strongest products yet."

the car has had to fend off updates from its competitors, emphasising the
Mazda6's design and engineering depth and ability. This car struck a chord with
the judges and car buyers with it almost doubling its sales target this year.
