Subaru is giving Australian International Motor Show visitors a double dose
of the future, with the unveil of its Impreza World Rally Car (WRC) concept and
the Model Year 2008 Tribeca. Based on the recently launched new generation
Impreza, the WRC concept gives a sneak preview of the next step in the model’s
future.
A full production Impreza WRC is due to debut in the World Rally Championship
during 2008.
Among the Subaru World Rally Team drivers will be Australia’s Chris
Atkinson.
The WRC concept provides some clues on the styling of the new Impreza WRX
STI, due on sale in Australia in the first quarter of next year.
Impreza WRX STI will be unveiled at next week’s Tokyo Motor Show.
The 2008 Tribeca is due on sale by the year’s end.
Among the changes, this flexible medium SUV features:
- Subaru’s largest ever engine, a 3.6 litre, six-cylinder boxer;
- Re-mapped SPORTSHIFT five-speed automatic transmission;
- Revised rear suspension;
- Easier access to third row seats in seven-seater models, thanks to a revised
access mechanism on second row seats;
- Contemporary styling for the nose, tailgate and rear quarter panels.
Nick Senior, Managing Director, Subaru Australia, said: “We recently embarked
on the greatest ever change in our product line-up.
“In two years time, our entire range will have been completely renewed.
“By March next year, around 60 per cent of our vehicles will have
changed.
“As already demonstrated by new Impreza, there will be a common theme in each
of our offerings: advanced driving technology, five-star safety,
value-for-money, style and premium Japanese build quality.
“We’re delighted to bring motor show visitors two previews of our future, one
from the performance end of the spectrum, the other from the family and
recreational end.”
