Nissan's new 200SX sports coupe will be previewed at the Sydney International Motor Show, 17-26th November, 2000.
Already applauded as one of Japan's best-looking cars, the new turbocharged 200SX goes on sale in mid-December.
The first shipment arrives about 10 days after the Sydney International Motor Show closes but, according to Nissan Australia's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Leon Daphne, there was no chance of bringing the introduction forward.
"We want to remind sports car buyers that the 200SX is just around the corner but, as there was no time to hold media and dealer launches before the Sydney International Motor Show, it would not be appropriate to announce full details about the car, its model lineup or pricing," Mr Daphne said.
No doubt show visitors who see the car will marvel at its gorgeous looks - just as sports car enthusiasts did when its twin, the Silvia, was first unveiled in Japan.
While the previous model was conservative in its styling, the new 200SX can best be described as tenacious with a low, slanted nose and beautiful curved wrap-around rear fenders. Two side character lines accentuate the overall wedge shape.
Meaty, five-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels complete a purposeful look which leaves no doubt the new 200SX is a serious sports car.
Mr Daphne added the new 200SX is a worthy addition to Nissan's long list of great sports cars. "In horse racing terms, the 200SX does have a very impressive bloodline - cars dating back to the original Datsun Fairlady, the 240Z and later Z-cars plus, of course, the Skyline GT-R which so dominated touring car racing in this country in the early nineties that they changed the rules to get rid of us," he said.
According to Nissan Australia's Director of Sales and Marketing, Mr Paul Stead, customer enquiry for the new 200SX model has been strong for some time.
"The 200SX is one of only a handful of Japanese sports cars which have a real cult following and our Nissan Australia Dealers and Customer Assistance team have been fielding enquiries about the new car almost daily since its launch in Japan," Mr Stead revealed.
