Winning all seven stages of this year's FIA
Cross Country World Championship, Citroen's awesome Rallye Raid has totally dominated the
competition from start to finish during 1997 - collecting the Manufacturer's, Driver's and
Co-Driver's titles. This is the fifth successive year that Citroen has triumphed in the
Championship.
Since its introduction in 1990, the Citroen Rallye Raid has won no fewer than 36 out of
the 42 races it has entered. Racing across most of the continents in the world, Citroen
has achieved four victories in the famous and gruelling Paris-Dakar Rally and two wins in
the Paris- Moscow-Beijing Rally ensuring its place in the record books as one of the most
successful cars in Cross Country rallying history.
Capable of accelerating from rest to 60mph in less than five seconds, the 160 mph, seven
speed Citroen Rallye Raid has raced across some of the most inhospitable terrain and
barren deserts in the world, including Russia, China, Egypt, South Africa and most
recently the United Arab Emirates. With no visual landmarks, the crew of the Rallye Raid
have covered thousands of miles with just the aid of an on-board satellite navigation
system in sweltering conditions, at times subjecting the driver and co-driver to
incredible in-cabin temperatures of up to 160°ree;
To the relief of many Cross Country rallying competitors, 1997 is the last year the
Citroen Rallye Raid will compete in the World Cup, as Citroen Sport in France turns its
attention to winning races with its breath-taking Saxo and Xsara Kit Cars.
