The quintessential MG, the mid-engined MGF roadster now features a new performance flagship model with the exciting new Trophy 160. Its specification is derived from extensive racetrack action around the world including the successful one-make race series in Europe and Japan.
A tuned version of the advanced alloy twin cam, 16 valve 1.8-litre Variable Valve Control engine, with a wide-bore sports exhaust system, larger valves and new manifolds, develops 160Ps (hence the Trophy’s name) or 117kW – over 10% more power than the already potent standard VVC model.
Handling and braking capabilities have been upgraded for the higher performance. The Hydragas interconnected suspension has competition-based spring and damper rates and a 20mm lower ride height, while a new MG-AP Racing brake system is fitted, using 304mm ventilated front discs and bright red MG-branded aluminium calipers. A new design of 16-inch eleven-spoke alloy wheel is standard along with 195/45 uni-directional tyres at the front and 215/40 at the rear.
At the front, the MGF Trophy features a new bib splitter spoiler and a rear deck spoiler has also been added; these combine with the lower stance to reduce aerodynamic drag and lift, enhancing performance and stability. Top speed of the Trophy 160 is 220kmh and it can accelerate from 0-100kmh in 7.6 seconds.
To complement the racecar presence of the Trophy 160 there are four striking paint colours – Trophy Yellow and pearlescent Trophy Blue (both created for this model), Solar Red and Anthracite metallic black. Other distinguishing features include bright mesh for the front grille and side air intakes and black bezels around the twin beam headlights.
Inside the Trophy are new body-colour inserts in the door trims and the centre console; sections of the leather steering wheel are also colour-keyed to the body. A special leather and fabric seat treatment incorporating ‘Trophy 160’ badging is unique to this model.
Standard equipment includes air conditioning, remote locking with alarm, immobiliser and superlocking, and a 6 speaker CD audio system. Like all MGF models the Trophy is covered by a three year, 100,000km warranty with roadside assist.
The MGF Trophy 160 is on sale through the national network of 13 MG Rover dealerships at a recommended retail price of $54,990.
