Luxury car-maker Lexus has introduced Bluetooth technology offering wireless connectivity to Bluetooth-compatible mobile phones.
Bluetooth is now available on the latest Lexus LS430 flagship sedan and the marque's luxury four wheel drive LX470.
Bluetooth allows Lexus drivers to make and receive mobile calls via a steering wheel button, or the dashboard-mounted satellite navigation screen.
Mobile calls can be made without drivers taking their mobile phones out of their pockets or handbags.
The dashboard-mounted seven-inch EMV (electro multi-vision) screen is a Lexus technology hub, housing a range of advanced in-car touch screen controls.
Lexus drivers can call up their phonebook on the EMV screen, and store numbers so that they can one-touch dial in two easy steps.
For road safety, drivers may only make mobile calls using up to 18 pre-programmed one-touch numbers while the car is moving. When the car is stationary, the full phonebook may be accessed.
When a mobile call is received, the stereo system quietens and the EMV screen simultaneously changes to the mobile phone interface, displaying the caller's number where this is not blocked.
Mobile calls can be answered via a steering wheel button or the EMV screen.
Up to four separate compatible Bluetooth mobile phones can be registered on the Lexus system simultaneously, with one activated at any one time.
Other advanced in-car technology (accessed by the Lexus EMV) includes the Lexus rear view camera, advanced DVD-based satellite navigation, full audio and climate control, and parking sonar display.
When reverse is engaged, live feed from the rear-view wide angle lens automatically appears on the EMV screen, giving Lexus drivers a unique view behind the vehicle.
Lexus introduced the rear view camera in Australia for the first time earlier this year on the popular RX330 Luxury Sport Vehicle.
It was made available in September on the new Lexus LS430 and from October on the upgraded LX470 luxury four wheel drive.
The Lexus touch-screen DVD-based 03 model year satellite navigation is approximately eight times faster than CD-based Sat Nav.
It can plot a trip from a street in Sydney to one in Perth in just four seconds, and can locate points of interest such as ATMs, petrol stations and restaurants.
Lexus EMV also houses full audio controls and features touch-screen climate control.
