  • Front side rails with greater energy absorbing capability.
  • Door/bonnet/boot/tailgate hinges - allow greater dimensional and locational consistency, allowing reduced opening margins.
  • Boot Gas Struts - Gas struts, together with the improved hinge design, eliminate intrusion into the luggage space.
  • Door Weather-Strip Sealing System - Triple weather-strip sealing system decreases door opening area windnoise by approximately 10%.
Powertrain
  • New 'Intech' engine - incorporates many leading edge technological features including:
  • Contributes 5% economy gain to overall 8% improvement for vehicle.
  • Increased structural rigidity, through multi-layer-steel cylinder head gasket, more rigid crankshaft with larger bearings, structural aluminium oil pan and cross-bolted main bearing caps. Assists NVH and fuel economy through lower friction.
  • Variable Cam Timing (VCT) for highest-performance engine.
  • "Fail-safe" cooling system for all I6 engines, allowing limp-home driving even after loss of coolant.
  • Lower internal inertia and friction, through new piston & ring design, piston anti-friction coating, and reduced oil viscosity.
  • Flexible coupling to exhaust system, to improve exhaust NVH quality and permit 500rpm idle with associated fuel economy improvement.
  • Electronic distributorless ignition system (EDIS) and sequential fuel injection (SEFI) with EEC V control unit and improved knock control for precise control of combustion process; resulting in smoother idle and improved fuel economy.
  • New 'Smart Start' feature - prevents starter motor activating when engine on.
  • Revised accessory drive system with more rigid, semi-direct mounting of accessories to engine block.
  • EEC V powertrain controller supports Enhanced Service Bay Diagnostics for faster and more reliable diagnosis even of transient operating deficiencies.
  • Base Auto Transmission shift quality improved through software and hardware revisions.
  • Revised Manual Transmission to improve gear noise and shift quality.
  • New transmission rear mount member to reduce noise transmission to body.
  • New Traction Control feature incorporating four-channel ABS system; continuously inhibits wheel slip through electronic control of fuel and brake systems.
  • LPG fuel control integrated into EEC V for improved and lower cost system. (Option available on Falcon Forte, Falcon Futura and Fairmont).
