Concept
In designing the Micros-3l, the aim is a minimal two-seater transporter that is easy and efficient to use in the type of difficult, crowded traffic environment found in cities. As its name implies, the Micros-3l is being developed as a micro-sized car that consumes very little fuel and is very clean in terms of emissions.
For practicality, it is powered by a gasoline engine. It can cover 35 kilometers on a single liter of gasoline, meaning it can go more than 100 kilometers on just three liters. Emissions of CO and HC are close to zero, and the level of NOx emissions is ultra-low. Since it will be used mainly for driving, it has been equipped with Daihatsu's ITS technology and is compatible with new traffic systems. It is expected to be utilized in many ways, for shared commuting in towns and urban environs and as a minimal personal car.
Design
It has a detachable T-bar roof. Despite its small size, sashless front door and back door create an open, look that makes the interior seem much larger. The window is electrically operated. To use the limited inside space as efficiently as possible, the parking brake is foot-operated and the gear shift is on the instrument panel.
Packaging
The two-seater, front-wheel-drive Micros-3l is highly compact, being 2,500 mm long and 1,475 mm wide, with a wheelbase of 1,560 mm. The minimum turning radius is a mere 3.0 m. It can seat two comfortably, and has enough luggage space for its intended use in an urban environment.
Machanism
The Micros-3l is powered by a newly developed engine with direct fuel injection. To reduce weight, the body is made of resin, mounted on an aluminum chassis. It is capable of a 10•15 mode consumption of 35 km/l. A multistage catalytic converter system prevents the emission of any CO HC. NOx emissions are greatly reduced by a lean NOx catalyst used in conjunction with an advanced fuel control system. An eco CVT transmission ensures a smooth ride. The Micros-3l delivers all-round safety by using a crash-safety body<TAF>.
